Creating a Successful Bed & Breakfast
The first time I stayed at a bed & breakfast was when my wife and I went on our first anniversary vacation weekend. We knew we wanted to go away, we just wasn’t sure where or the things we wanted to do.
A colleague of hers showed her a book of bed & breakfasts’ around the United Conditions. She brought the book home to me to have a look to see what I thought about going to one particular for our anniversary. With zero experience (at the time) and zero familiarity with bed & breakfasts’ I thought i was a bit skeptical. Must really want to spend my weekend staying in someone’s home?
The more I discover the bed & breakfast lifestyle, the more I became intrigued, until finally my spouse got hooked and we booked a bed & breakfast in upstate Vermont. I can honestly say it was a wonderful time. The bed & breakfast owners treated us like royalty, waited on us like we were a king and queen, and the (that was included in purchase price) was simply unbelievable.
Since then my girlfriend and I tend to be to two other bed & breakfasts, one in Williamsburg, VA and another in upstate California near Seneca Lake. Although the concept each and every bed & breakfast were similar, these people different in several different ways. For instance in Vermont at breakfast and dinner (both that were included) we sat at our own table in the adjoining restaurant. In NY and VA we ate a massive table with every one of the other guests. In VA the owners took care of everything, well them and their boys and girls. In NY and VT the owners ran the place but also had help to get rooms ready and continue the place fully clean. In VT we had our own outside entrance to our room as if the room was some of our house. In NY and VA you would your own bedroom in the same house with the additional guests.
Regardless of whichever style you choose, if you never ever stayed at a bed & breakfast you should. Each one was wonderful may really felt as you were part on the owner’s family while you stayed there.
I would recommend first pick a setting where you know you would cherish to stay. Anyone like the heaps? How about the sun or a tropical island? Once you recognize what you really want to do, then look up the bed & breakfasts their areas that you targeted and start reading up on them. Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other book stores have awide variety of books you can think about without purchasing to obtain this information. You can even go to try your local library or look on your bed & breakfast directory online.
Once you experience the location and contain it narrowed down 1 or two possible bed & breakfast choices, start pricing them out and find if they are in your budget. I noticed you that they are a bit pricier then a normal hotel room (some of them anyway). However verify which kind of amenities you get for your reasonable price. Most come with breakfast, otherwise always be just be called Bed & leave of my house in the early morning hours. You get the guide. Some also serve dinner and offer afternoon tea & healthy. Find out what you receive for your money. It will definitely along with your decision.
